As the academic year winds down to the summer break, I’ve been able to put some thought into how I want to use my website. I’ve been sitting on the URL for many years now, wondering how I can put it to best use. After much deliberation, I think I’ve finally found an answer. So just like Doctor Who, the website has regenerated into a new form and will continue to evolve whenever I can devote time to its maintenance and development.
I always wanted the site to be a portfolio of sorts, but was conflicted about keeping my professional life separate from my artistic pursuits. Now I think I’m in a position where I can fully integrate everything together into a single site without it becoming completely incoherent. What you will not find here is the kind of personal blog I used to write in the 2000s-2010s. That kind of thing is increasingly professionally dangerous for someone working in the Education sector – one of the reasons I don’t have much of a social media presence. So the blog will be limited purely to updates regarding ongoing projects in the three major pillars of my creative output: physics podcasts, novels and other writing, or art, which will primarily be ceramic art, but may also include drawings and sketches.
Do not expect my output to be prolific. I’m far too busy with a full-time day job to be able to conform to a strict content production schedule. I’m simply not interested in things like personal branding or even making money from the site and I certainly will not be harvesting personal information from site-users and hawking it on dark web. I don’t want your data and the only cookies I’m interested in have chocolate chips.
The design of the site may evolve over the coming weeks and months, but again, don’t expect anything flashy. I don’t have the time nor the technical skill to maintain anything too complicated, which is why I’m limiting the number of categories for updates and posts to just four: General Updates; Scientist; Writer; Artist.
General Updates will be posts like this one, for site-related news; Scientist posts will be linked to the release of new physics podcasts, or science-related projects; Writer posts will provide news on literary projects, such as progress reports on the latest novel or short story; and finally, Artist posts will be related to other creative projects, such as pottery courses or new drawings and sketches.
